VolLiqMeter · Liquidity & Tape Meter

See if the market is thick or thin before you hit the button.

It reads how much liquidity is resting in the book and how hard traders are hitting it, and lays both right on your chart. No one predicts the next move. It tells you what kind of market you're about to trade into.

The same setup behaves completely differently in a thin market than a thick one. I wanted to always know which one I'm in. Walter, founder of Flow.42

NinjaTrader 8 Futures · FX · Crypto Level 2 (DOM) data

A compact dashboard for tape & liquidity.

I built VolLiqMeter for traders who watch both the book and the flow, but don't want five DOM and footprint windows fighting for screen space. It squeezes book depth and aggressor activity into two small panels that sit right on your chart, so the vague "this feels thin" becomes something you can actually point at. At a glance you can tell whether the tape favors a breakout, a scalp, a rotation, or just sitting on your hands.

Read tape and book together

Resting depth and trade pressure sit right next to each other. No flipping between windows trying to hold both in your head.

Know when to engage

Thick and slow asks for one approach; thin and fast asks for another. Seeing which you're in makes the press-or-wait call easier.

Less screen clutter

Two small panels instead of a wall of DOM and footprint windows. Less to stare at, less to miss.

Order book weight and trade pressure side by side

These two readings belong together, so I put them together: how much liquidity is resting around the inside market, and how hard traders are leaning into it right now. A thick book with weak aggression is a completely different animal from a thin book with people hammering it. You catch that contrast in one glance instead of stitching it together from three other windows.

Panels that live where your eyes already are

Grab either panel with the mouse and drop it wherever you actually look: above price, off in a corner, right next to your trigger zone. It remembers where you put things when you reload the workspace, and you can match the background, borders and fonts to your chart theme. It should look like part of your setup, not some widget bolted on top.

VOLLIQMETER FAQ

Liquidity, in plain terms

The questions I get asked most before someone puts a liquidity-and-tape dashboard on their charts.

Many trades go wrong not because the idea was bad, but because the market state was wrong, trying to force momentum in a thick, sleepy tape or fading a move in a thin, wild one. VolLiqMeter makes that state explicit by putting book weight and trade pressure right in front of you, so “maybe not now” becomes an objective decision, not a vague feeling.

It doesn’t try to replace them, it summarizes what most traders are looking for in them: “How thick is the book here?” and “How hard are they hitting it right now?” You can still use detailed DOM or footprint views, but VolLiqMeter gives you a fast, low-cognitive way to keep that information in your main chart view at all times.

VolLiqMeter is designed as a lightweight overlay: UI updates are throttled to sensible intervals and the lookback on book levels is configurable. In practice, that means you get a responsive tape-and-liquidity read without turning your chart into a performance hog, especially if you keep the DOM window to a realistic range around the inside market.

VolLiqMeter is the state meter for the suite, it tells you whether the environment is thick/slow or thin/fast while tools like VolDrive, VolDynamics and VolSpike tell you what is happening inside that environment. Used together, they help you separate “good idea, wrong tape” from “good idea, right tape and right timing”.

The Flow.42 way

Trade less. Trade better. Trade with clarity.

Thin liquidity is where good trades go to die. I'd rather see it before I size in.
