VolImbalance · Diagonal Volume Imbalance Zones

See the price levels where aggressive volume took control.

The exact price levels where aggressive buying or selling took control, pulled out of the candle and left on your chart, so you're not hunting through every footprint level to find them.

A clearer map of where aggressive participation mattered.

I don't care that a bar traded a few thousand contracts. I care where inside it one side ran the other over. That's the location a bar total throws away, so VolImbalance digs it back out and marks the levels where buying or selling was genuinely one-sided. Those levels stay on the chart as zones, so when price comes back you can read whether it's being defended, accepted, or just walked through.

Use the zone, then read the response

The market can always do anything. I'm not going to pretend a tool changes that. What it does change is where you're looking. VolImbalance puts your attention on the levels where aggression already showed its hand, so you're reading a spot that mattered instead of an empty stretch of chart.

Meaningful Location

A clear imbalance zone is a price area that already proved it mattered. When price comes back to it, you've got something real to frame the reaction around instead of a guess.

Avoid Empty Space

When price is drifting through space with no zone nearby and no real response, that's your cue it's thin context, and probably not the place to lean hard on a read.

See where control showed up

Spot the price levels where one side clearly ran the other over.

Track meaningful zones

The levels that mattered stay on the chart as zones, so you can watch how price treats them on the way back.

Read the reaction

Watch whether price defends a zone, accepts it, or fails there, and adjust your read from what you actually see.

Only show the levels that actually mattered

VolImbalance strips the candle down to the price levels where real volume traded and one side was clearly in control. No wall of color. No “every tick” decoration. Just the handful of levels that were actually worth your attention.

Clusters = meaningful zones, not random rectangles

A cluster is a zone stacked from several imbalanced levels that each traded real volume, not just a busy spot. That's the difference between a place the market fought over and a place price merely drifted through, and only the first one is worth marking.

Read acceptance vs rejection in seconds

When price comes back to a cluster, you see straight away whether it holds or gets broken. Held means the level is being defended; broken means it's being accepted. That one look reads the reaction for you, instead of leaving you to guess at it.

DOM Imbalance adds a real time liquidity layer

DOM Imbalance reads Level 2 depth and shows whether the top of the book is bid heavy or ask heavy right now. So you get an instant read on whether a move has liquidity behind it or is about to run into a wall. Paired with the footprint clusters, it helps you see when price is likely to hold, stall, or get pushed away, without you babysitting the DOM all session.

Drop it straight into BloodHound & BlackBird

VolImbalance exposes its read as two clean signals for SharkIndicators BloodHound & BlackBird: a BID and an ASK output that fire when your active filters all line up. So you can turn "price defended this zone" into a rule-based entry, filter, or fully automated strategy, without rebuilding the logic by hand.

VOLIMBALANCE FAQ

Reading the imbalance zones

How it differs from the usual volume tools, and where it fits into the way you actually trade.

VolImbalance is a tick-based diagonal volume imbalance indicator for NinjaTrader. It highlights the price levels where aggressive buying or selling was clearly dominant and keeps those levels visible as markers and zones. In simple terms, it shows where one side already won.

Standard volume and delta summarize activity across the whole bar. VolImbalance goes one step deeper and points to the actual price levels inside the bar where pressure was clearly one-sided. That makes it useful for mapping meaningful areas on the chart, not just reading a bar total.

“Diagonal imbalance only” means the level passed the raw diagonal volume test. “Diagonal imbalance + rejection context” means the same imbalance also appeared in a stronger candle location, usually near a bar extreme with price rejecting away from that area. The second label is more selective and usually carries more context.

No. VolImbalance is designed to bring footprint-style information directly onto a normal chart, so you can see important price levels without staring at a separate footprint or DOM window. The optional DOM layer adds extra liquidity context, but it is not required to benefit from the core imbalance zones.

No. VolImbalance is best used as a context and location tool. It helps you identify the levels and zones where strong participation already showed up, then judge whether price is defending, accepting, or failing there. It is there to improve decision quality, not to replace trade selection or risk management.

VolImbalance gives you the map. It shows where aggressive participation already mattered. The rest of your Flow.42 workflow helps you judge what price is doing at those levels, whether the market is defending them, accepting them, or ignoring them.
